Westfjords
The Westfjords have Iceland's most challenging roads — narrow, winding, and often gravel. Dynjandi waterfall and Látrabjarg cliffs reward the drive. Many roads close in winter. Check conditions carefully.

Ísafjörður

Dynjandi
Fjallfoss
Tiered waterfall in the Westfjords. 100m tall, 30m wide at the top expanding to 60m at the bottom. The most beautiful waterfall in the Westfjords.
Látrabjarg
Europe's largest bird cliff. 14km long, up to 440m high. Puffins, gannets, guillemots. Westernmost point of Iceland. Rough gravel road.
Rauðasandur
Red Sand Beach
Unique red sand beach in the Westfjords. Colors range from red to golden. Secluded, often empty. Near Patreksfjörður.
Patreksfjörður
Town in the southern Westfjords. Gateway to Látrabjarg and Rauðasandur beaches. Salmon fishing and natural hot pools nearby.
Hólmavík
Gateway town to the Westfjords from the north. Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft. Longest fjord—Ísafjarðardjúp.
Hornstrandir
Remote nature reserve in the northern Westfjords. No permanent residents. Arctic foxes, dramatic cliffs, hiking paradise. Accessible only by boat.
